The Standing Committee is now accepting applications for the Search & Transition Committee for the election of the ninth Bishop of Alaska.
This committee will carry much of the work of listening, searching, discerning, and preparing our diocese for this important transition. We are seeking people from across the Diocese of Alaska who bring different experiences, perspectives, gifts, and connections to the life of our Church.
The Search & Transition Committee will guide the diocese through both the search for our next bishop and the transition that follows the election.
Its work will include listening to people throughout the Diocese, helping develop our diocesan profile, receiving and discerning applications, recommending a slate of candidates to the Standing Committee, supporting opportunities for the Diocese to meet the candidates, and helping prepare for the transition from our current bishop to our bishop-elect.
We hope to form a committee that reflects the breadth and diversity of the Diocese of Alaska—lay and clergy, different generations, different communities and deaneries, Indigenous and non-Indigenous voices, and people with a variety of gifts and experiences.
Most importantly, we are looking for people who are willing to listen, pray, work collaboratively, and enter this process with openness to where the Holy Spirit may lead.
This is a significant commitment of time and energy. The committee's work will extend through the search, election, and transition process, with periods of more intensive work along the way. Members should expect regular meetings, individual work between meetings, and participation in key gatherings and discernment activities.
Applications are now open.
If you feel called to participate in this important work, we invite you to prayerfully consider applying.
